The aim of this two-year Programme is to contribute to reducing alcohol-related road deaths and injuries through the identification and promotion of best practice in both policy and advocacy. This focus is aligned with the EU Alcohol Strategy to reduce injuries and deaths from alcohol-related road traffic accidents.
The Drink Driving Policy Network 2009-2010 will be committed to ETSC's systemic and evidence-based approach to road safety work and will gather information on European countries' progress in reducing deaths from drink driving crashes.
More specifically, under the Drink Driving Policy Network 2009-2010, the ETSC will carry out four specific activities:
1. Three Capacity Building and Awareness Raising Seminars, aiming at involving national decision makers, discussing the country's drink driving performance in relation to ongoing policy debates, ensuring a balanced attendance and lively debate, attracting media and creating a momentum to spark further road safety efforts.
2. A Compendium on Traffic Law enforcement in the area of Drinking and Driving, aiming at promoting best practice in police enforcement across Europe by monitoring, assessing and reporting on the activities at EU member state level.
3. Six Drink Driving Monitors, a regular newsletter focusing on monitoring and commenting on drink driving legislation and activity in the EU and in the Member States.
4. Four Country Fact Sheets, analysing the situation in a particular country and outlining a toolkit of measures that are yet to be implemented or could be implemented better.
The Drink Driving Policy Network receives financial support from Diageo. Diageo is committed to promoting responsible drinking. Go to DRINKiQ.com to find out more.
